The State Society of Arizona awards the U.S. Senator John S. McCain Award Service Service to Arizona Award to individuals who have served the Grand Canyon state with both dignity and pride. The award honors individuals who have made Arizona a better state to live, work, and play through their service. In memory of U.S. Senator John McCain, who served as a U.S. Senator representing Arizona from 1987 until 2018. Senator McCain’s leadership as a U.S. Senator and as a veteran of the United States Navy has left a lasting mark on both Arizona and the United States of America.

Inaugural Recipient - Honorable Jim Kolbe
The Honorable Jim Kolbe was recognized for his lifetime of service to Arizona with the State Society of Arizona’s inaugural U.S. Senator John S. McCain Award Service Service to Arizona Award. The Honorable Jim Kolbe served in the United States Navy from 1967- 1969 and in the United States Naval Reserve from 1970 -1977. He served in Arizona’s state Senate from 1977-1982 and represented Arizona’s 5th Congressional District from 1985-2003 and Arizona’s 8th Congressional District from 2003-2007.
